Dance floor hire
Parquet, LED and outdoor systems sized to your evening guest list. Delivered, set up and collected by suppliers who cover your patch.
Dance floor hire (also called dance floor rental) typically costs £250 to £450 for a 12ft × 12ft parquet floor and £400 to £800 for LED or white starlit floors, delivered and fitted. Size on 0.2 sqm per invited guest: a 100-guest party suits a 4m × 5m floor.
Nobody remembers the dance floor when it is right and nobody forgets when it is wrong: too small and it is elbows, too large and it looks empty in photos. The working ratio is about a third of guests dancing at any one time, each needing half a square metre.
Parquet and boarded oak suit marquees and barns; black-and-white checkerboard (also sold as chequered) reads retro; LED and starlit floors carry the evening in venues with low light. Outdoor-rated interlocking floors exist for open-air dancing, but they still want a level base and a dry-weather plan.
PLANNING RATIOAllow about 0.2 sqm of dance floor per invited guest: a third of guests dance at once, at roughly 0.5 sqm each.

Dance floors hire: questions organisers ask
What size dance floor do I need for 100 guests?
Around 20 sqm: a 4m × 5m or 15ft × 15ft floor. The rule of thumb is 0.2 sqm per invited guest, since about a third of the room dances at once. Round up if your crowd skews young or the band is good.
What is the difference between a checkerboard, black-and-white and starlit dance floor?
Checkerboard and chequered are the same product: alternating black and white squares, the classic retro look, quoted as either name. A black-and-white floor without the pattern is a plain two-tone finish, a quieter alternative. Starlit and LED floors are a different build entirely: an internally lit deck (usually white acrylic) with fibre-optic "stars" or colour-change panels, priced higher because of the lighting and control gear inside.
Can you put a dance floor on grass?
Not directly: every panel floor needs a firm, level, dry base. In a marquee that means boarded flooring underneath. For truly open-air dancing, hire an outdoor-rated interlocking system on levelled ground and have a wet-weather fallback.
How much does LED dance floor hire cost?
Typically £400 to £800 for a 12ft × 12ft white starlit or colour-change LED floor including delivery, fitting and a controller. Larger 20ft systems for big weddings run £700 to £1,200.
Can I hire a dance floor for a garden party or patio with no marquee?
Yes, but not an LED or starlit floor: those need a covered, dry site because the lighting and control gear inside do not take direct rain. For open-air dancing, ask for an outdoor-rated portable floor, which can sit on grass, patio or gravel with proper levelling. Book it with a wet-weather fallback regardless, since the base still needs to be dry and level on the day.
What is a mirror (magic mirror) dance floor and is it worth the extra cost?
A mirror or magic mirror floor uses reflective acrylic panels instead of a printed or LED surface, so the room and lighting bounce back off it in photos and video. It sits in the same price bracket as LED and starlit floors, usually a little above, and needs the same level, dry base and careful handling since the panels mark more easily than wood or standard acrylic.
